-In Spanish, you cannot put “no” followed by a noun, as in English:
No chocolate. No quiero chocolate.
No idea. No tengo idea.
No problem. No hay problema.
-“No” goes always in front of the verb:
I am not Mary. No soy María.
I am not sleeping. No estoy durmiendo.
-Nunca voy a Colombia de vacaciones. No voy nunca a Colombia de vacaciones. I never go to Colombia for holidays.
-Jamás voy a Colombia. No voy jamás a Colombia. It’s the same, but more emphatic.
-Nada me preocupa cuando estoy de vacaciones. No me preocupa nada cuando estoy de vacaciones. I am not worried about anything when I am on holidays.
-Nadie va de vacaciones a esas islas. No va nadie de vacaciones a esas islas. Nobody goes to those islands for holidays.
-Ninguna opción me gusta. No me gusta ninguna de estas opciones. I do not like any of these options.
Notice what happens with the masculine forms: Ningún hotel me gusta. No me gusta ninguno de estos hoteles. I do not like any of these hotels.
In fact, this happens with “uno, alguno, ninguno”. Whenever you have one of this words in front of the noun, they become “un, algún, ningún” to speak faster. “Tengo un coche” pero “tengo uno”. “Tengo algún libro en español” pero “tengo alguno”. “No tengo ningún amigo francés” pero “No tengo ninguno”.
-Ni María ni Carlos van a viajar. No van a viajar ni María ni Carlos. Neither Mary nor Charles are going to travel.
-Yo no quiero ir a la playa. Yo tampoco. I do not want to go to the beach. Me neither.
-Ya no quiero ir a las montañas. I do not want to go to the mountains anymore.
-Todavía no he viajado a Colombia. I have not travelled to Colombia yet.
