Guitarra icon - Spanish for LondonArticles (artículos in Spanish) are little words that we put in front of Nouns:

The house

A house

The problem is, as always, that in Spanish we have masculine, feminine, singular and plural. Look at this:

The house is white. La casa es blanca.

The houses are white. Las casas son blancas.

The floor is white. El piso es blanco.

The floors are white. Los pisos son blancos.

So we have one word in English and four in Spanish! Sorry. But actually, English is an exception, because if you check other European languages, you will see that they are like Spanish in this respect. Anyway, this is an easy topic. You only have to watch the video and think before speaking, because this is something very simple but, since you are an English speaker, possibly your brain will be working in your native language and you will take the wrong path. Remember: many students fail when talking simply because they forget the agreement amongst words, so don’t say “la casa es blanco” or things like this. The article is the “leader”, so if it is feminine or masculine, or singular or plural, the rest of the words will follow the leader. As simple as that. Now, you can watch the video:

In Blog number 20, “How to use Articles”, you will find all the rules to know when and how to use them, it is not something natural, every language is different also in this respect.
